OpenVMS Migrations

Migration projects are unlike development projects, requiring a deep understanding of both the source and target environments. The application that is to be migrated should be fully understood and analyzed to understand its functionality and interfaces to other apps.

Its possible that some application functions are VMS specific, and cannot be replicated in the target environment. As an example, file version numbers are a part of the OpenVMS RMS file management system that allows multiple copies of the same file name to exist. This feature is not available on other Operating systems. Clients have used the version numbering feature within their DCL command procedures to create multiple copies of data files within the same process, with each step using the prior version to update. Handling this and other OpenVMS specific issues during a migration needs knowledge of both the source and target environments, and we can provide both.
